Helen Sung made a serious splash at her last Monks show, so it’s no surprise she’s been invited back – this time fronting a different kind of band. The Houston pianist started her journey toward large ensemble writing in 2016 when invited to arrange for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The lessons learned and experience gained have led to Oracles, her first album featuring a big band performing her original compositions.
