Fresh off graduating from Cranbrook Academy of Art in May, Hayley Labrum’s solo show at Martha’s this fall marks a triumphant return to Austin for the artist at the height of her powers. Labrum’s gorgeous oil paintings – enhanced by elemental materials that reflect her deeply researched practice, such as salt and copper pipe – delve into both her personal experience of leaving the Mormon church after 30 years, the Kennecott Copper Mine in Salt Lake where her father worked, and Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard. Much to chew on both visually and conceptually! – Lina Fisher
