Kick off the Halloween season with arguably the greatest witchcraft movie ever made. 1922’s Häxan aka Witchcraft Through the Ages is part straightforward horror and part essay about the perils of falling for superstition. Director Benjamin Christensen dismantles the infamous Malleus Maleficarum, the most dangerous witch hunters guide of the 15th century, to show how whisper campaigns and ignorance can be weaponized against the innocent. Its mix of historical fact and hysterical deviltry shows you can have your candy and eat it too. This extra-special screening comes with a special live accompaniment, including a heavy metal score by David DiDonato and narration by Kelli Bland. – Richard Whittaker
