Austin Symphony might not seem like a perfect family afternoon activity, but it’s actually the perfect way to pregame spooky season for the kiddos (and to get a couple extra wears out of any surprisingly expensive Pokémon costumes). Preshow activities include a costume contest, crafting, and instrument exploration. The show itself blends creepy classical with stunning soundtrack, all skillfully guided by seasoned theatre educator Liz Zimmerman. Her narration helps kiddos grasp the skeletal sounds in Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, the soaring scope of selections from How to Train Your Dragon, and last but not least, sets the scene during Prokofiev’s classic Peter and the Wolf.
