For her first-ever solo exhibition, the Smithville-based and Austin-born Guadalupe Najar digs into her hometown’s backyard. Her tools are an amalgamation of ceramics, painting, found objects, and landscaping material, as well as the natural outcroppings of the Eastside environment, which she uses to unearth “a portal to an expansive inner world of labor, grief, and celebration.” Through the yard and its self-manufactured mythology, Najar explores the culture growing around gentrified development. Opens this Friday, Oct. 23, and continues into early 2027.– James Scott
