Goya: Visions of Flesh and Blood

Violet Crown continues its Exhibition on Screen series with a 10th anniversary screening of this documentary by David Bickerstaff. His deep dives into the catalogs of artists from Caravaggio to John Singer Sargent are always enthralling, and none more so than his 2015 exploration of the work of Spanish painter and printmaker Francisco Goya. By turns sensual and violent, his stealthily political works marked his career as the turning point between classical and contemporary art, and now you can appreciate its beauty and ingenuity on the big screen. – Richard Whittaker
