Godzilla (1998)

Look, much as it pains us all to admit it, we have to accept that CGI Godzilla from the baffling first Hollywood botch of the King of the Monsters is a part of Godzilla continuity. How else can the real Godzilla obliterate him in 20 seconds flat in Godzilla: Final Wars? Director Roland Emmerich missed the point and all the mystical subtext as he turned everyone’s favorite kaiju into nothing more than an overgrown iguana being chased down by a befuddled Ferris Bueller and a nonchalant Jean Reno as a French ninja. Is it good? No. Is it fun? Kinda. Does it also involve P. Diddy mumbling over a weird-in-a-bad-way remix of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”? Well, yes, but it was the Nineties and no one knew better.
