What better venue for revisiting vintage educational films than the Baker Center, a former elementary school? For this showcase of old educational films, our own homegrown Texas Archive of the Moving Image partners with Skip Elsheimer’s North Carolina-based A/V Geeks, which boasts an incredible 37,000-and-counting 16mm “educational, industrial, and ephemeral” films in its archive of curiosities. The subject matters, like homemaking tutorials and VD PSAs, are often wincing, and you’ll definitely laugh at the retro aesthetics and moral hectoring. But the production values can be pretty dang good – and hey, maybe you’ll learn something, too. (Don’t get VD, kids!) – Kimberley Jones
