The summer doldrums are upon us and slowcore is the only reasonable solution. Slouch into Brushy Street Commons’ new second stage, Alley Bar, lean into the heat-driven ennui, and catch a “Cool Drink” from Huntsville, Alabama’s Gawshock. Their lo-fi melodic sound is the brainchild of David Broome, interpreted live as a quartet. Thursday’s performance is rounded out with a stacked bill of somber Texas projects: Dead Sullivan, whose latest single experiments with distortion-heavy rhythms; country-inflected earworm lovers Amelia’s Best Friend; and quiet-gone-loud philosophers Shallowater. – Caroline Drew
