Me-OW! Rent continues to go through the roof around the country, but are the material conditions of tenants actually improving? Your friendly neighborhood organizers GATO (Greater Austin Tenant Organizing) invite all those interested in learning more about the history of tenant organizing to this documentary screening. Using archival footage, the 2024 picture digs into an early-Seventies Irish rent strike that garnered the support of over 350,000 tenants and includes interviews with several surviving strikers. The strike’s success in 1973 ought to provide plenty of motivation for aspiring activists, but if you need an extra energy boost, there’ll be a bake sale that directly funds GATO’s future efforts. Mmm: Tastes like sweet solidarity. – James Scott
