Steven Spielberg has memorably explored bad aliens and benevolent ones onscreen. They’re keeping a pretty tight lid on the plot of Disclosure Day – his long-awaited return to the genre, arriving June 12 – but the trailer suggests it falls in the former camp, the War-of-the-Worlds, yikes-they’re-coming-to-get-us ilk. Me, I prefer the ones about cosmic connection. Is there anything left to say about 1982’s E.T., about a little guy who gets stuck on Earth and makes friends with a sweet kid named Elliott? Only that it is basically a perfect film, and if you played me six notes from John Williams’ iconic score right now, I’d probably burst into tears – but the good kind. – Kimberley Jones
