Just about to bloom over on 43rd and Speedway is the newest release from artist and educator Elizabeth Chiles. This contemplative volume features not only full-bleed color illustrations but also a hand-sewn construction, both of which combined with Chiles’ photographic subject matter offer analog immersion. Readers should feel as though they are wandering through a garden, as Chiles explains in a post on her self-titled website, with commentary on what exploring means for the observed and the observer. Art historian and curator Sarah Bancroft joins Chiles for a discussion on “phenomenology, perception, and landscape” with a Q&A and booksigning to follow. – James Scott
