Anytime Tom Waits or John Lurie are in a movie, you know it’s gonna be a good time. In Jim Jarmusch’s signature black & white jailbreak tale, they play New Orleans cellmates (along with Italian actor Roberto Benigni) who decide to bust out. It’s a joy to watch Waits’ disc jockey and Lurie’s pimp bicker and brawl as they watch Benigni fall in love with a forest-dwelling baddie named Nicoletta (played by his real-life partner Nicoletta Braschi). Their dance to “It’s Raining” by Irma Thomas is one of the most beautiful scenes ever, IMHO. Oh, and Robby Müller (Paris, Texas, To Live and Die in L.A., The American Friend, Breaking the Waves) is the cinematographer. – Lina Fisher
