“Double Eternity”: A Maggie Cook Polacheck Retrospective
When: Fri., Aug. 7, Sat., Aug. 8 and Sun., Aug. 9 2026
Recent Best of Austin® winner Angeliska Polacheck, aka Sister Temperance Tarot, lost her mother to cancer when she was 7 years old. Over her 38 years of life, Maggie Cook Polacheck was a painter, a collage artist, a silversmith, and even a musician influenced by counterculture hippie movements as much as Texas’ country roots. “I have been processing her loss and her life through writing for many years now,” says Angeliska, whose compiled writing on her mother forms new book Double Eternity. Companion to the piece – currently fundraising its printing through Kickstarter until Aug. 19 – is this retrospective of Maggie’s oil paintings, multimedia sculptures, and collages, as well as her Seventies scrapbooks that Angeliska says “capture a moment in this city that only still exists in the memory of our eclectic elders.” – James Scott
