Explore the memories echoing throughout the U.S. and Mexico’s collective artistic heritage with Mexic-Arte’s newest exhibition. Comparing the curation of this collection to assembling an ofrenda, the museum aims to “[preserve] the stories of communities” much like how an altar decorated with candles, photographs, and late family members’ favorite foods keeps their memory alive. Alongside pieces like calavera prints by José Guadalupe Posada and works by contemporary artists Claudia Zapata and Claudia Aparicio will be a secondary presentation comprising selections from the Juan Antonio Sandoval Jr. Collection. This was donated by the late Sandoval, who worked as a reference librarian and subject specialist for art and Chicano studies at UT-El Paso. – James Scott
