Back in the early 1990s, as a UT student on a classical guitar scholarship, Davíd Garza first turned heads with his trio Twang Twang Shock-A-Boom’s improvising on the West Mall. Thirty-five years later, the native Texan returns to those old stomping grounds as acclaimed producer (most notably for Fiona Apple’s 2020 Grammy-grabbing Fetch the Bolt Cutters) and beloved songwriter who lit up Austin for decades with his mix of suave rock, eclectic rhythms, and spiked wordplay before alighting for L.A. Dah-VEED’s creative mind still swirls like a “Discoball World,” but his two shows at the Cactus Cafe promise a more intimate evening. – Doug Freeman
