With the death of Bob Weir and the end of Dead and Company as we know it, the burden officially falls on tribute acts to carry the magic of the Grateful Dead to the multigenerational hippie army of Deadheads. Luckily, the Dead have a long tradition of tribute bands, and Dark Star Orchestra sits at the top of that list. The sevenpiece stays true to the source material, often re-creating set lists from past Dead shows – though as of late they’ve mixed things up with covers the Dead never played, like “Tomorrow Is Forever” by Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner. It’ll be the band’s first time passing through Austin since 2017. – Joseph Gonzalez
