Danny Brown, born and raised in Detroit, began rapping after his DJ father introduced him to hip-hop and house. Brown got a late start in his career, but signed with Fool’s Gold Records and released his debaucherous, drug-fueled breakthrough mixtape, XXX, to great acclaim in 2011. 2016’s addictive Atrocity Exhibition confirmed Brown’s ascendance into hip-hop’s avant-garde. The last two fruitful years have produced Scaring the Hoes (with JPEGMafia), Quaranta, and the recently released EDM/hyperpop-influenced Stardust, which is his first entirely sober release. The MC, now an Austin resident, also hosts weekly podcast The Danny Brown Show. – Kahron Spearman
