Writing is often thought of as a solitary endeavor, even though its purpose is usually to communicate with others. It doesn’t have to be that way; sometimes it’s good for writers to step away from the desk and invite some creative collaboration, which is what Jonathan “Jay Writes” Ezemba offers as host of this monthly workshop. Hosted at Austin’s only Black-owned art gallery, this space is open to all writers – poets to novelists, beginners to pros – for an evening that starts with a prompt to spark inspiration then invites words to flow freely. Sharing and constructive feedback are encouraged, and it’s BYOB and pay-what-you can. – Kat McNevins
