Coriolano: A Texican Tragedy

Riots, power plays, clashes between the military and the common folk: I’m not just describing the average day in these United States (hi-oh!). I’m talking Shakespeare’s final tragedy, the brutally blunt Coriolanus. Walking Shadow Shakespeare Project isn’t ever satisfied with a straightforward retelling, either. No, everything is tweaked for maximum relevance, and this “cowboy Coriolanus” is no exception. They’ve reimagined the play as a dual-language border tale, a folk hero gone mad, a warning to the masses. WSSP’s recent project cleaned up Austin Theatre Critic Award nominations with their latest foray into Roman politics, so here comes their next chapter. – Cat McCarrey
