In a 2021 Chronicle interview, Director Madeleine Olnek discussed this offbeat story of an emotionally repressed alien attempting to woo Earth dykes’ stageplay origins. Because it centered queer jokes instead of suffering, the blue-hair audience wasn’t impressed. Luckily, Olnek stumbled on Sundance and cinema. “I read this article where this guy was like, ‘I can’t believe my movie got into Sundance, because it doesn’t even have a lesbian in it,’” she recalled, “and I was like, ‘Wait a minute.
