Who understands solidarity better than a clouro-cluster? After all, they have to figure out how to fit all together in those tiny cars. Watermelon Film Club calls forth the collective spirit of the clown for this fundraiser benefiting Gazan Circus School’s Uncle Tito and Palestinian performer Alaa Shehada. The comedian Shehada is also a filmmaker and the artist behind the night’s screening, The Horse of Jenin. A documentary, it focuses on the Jenin Horse scrap-metal sculpture that, in October 2023, was bulldozed by the IDF: “Now, Alaa is left wondering… What happened to the horse?” After the film, expect a clown drag show as well as tabling from the Palestine Online Store offering olive oil and kufiyas. – James Scott
