Author Chris Arnone had explored many styles of writing – poetry, sci-fi, plays – but told CanvasRebel in March, “I never had writing a memoir on my bingo card.” After reading former Austinite Alicia Roth Weigel’s award-winning memoir Inverse Cowgirl in 2023, and then becoming alarmed by Trump’s 2025 executive order that essentially “attempted to erase intersex people from the national conversation,” he realized his story of growing up intersex in the heartland must be told.
