Last week, we watched John Carpenter’s They Live, where extraterrestrials party amongst us as we sleep. Likewise, Oklahomans live openly in Austin. Now, brace for impact because Chat Pile is – as they say in Texas – fixin’ to be the biggest export from our northern neighbor since collegiate football. Third full-length Who Loves the Sun manifests an everyman (woman, and child) noise rock, equal parts emo, metal, and even modern goth, with the Jesus Lizard and Nineties post-punk grounding the OKC quartet’s contemporary disaffection and catharsis. So simple, so electric, so now. Philly hardcores Soul Glo and Lawrence, Kansas, gothic slowcores Virga (chat) pile aboard. – Raoul Hernandez
