On June 19, 1865 – two years after Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation – word hit Galveston, Texas, that slavery had been abolished. This annual Freedom Day celebration marches through Austin’s historic Rosewood neighborhood, while vendors, food, and entertainment light up the adjoining festival in Rosewood Park.
