Hayao Miyazaki is a genius. Yes? All agreed? But while stores stock up on No Face and Princess Mononoke merch, any castles on the shelf belong to Howl and aren’t the mysterious floating Laputa. The oft-overlooked Castle in the Sky is a gem, something that manages to combine Totoro-level comfort with Nausicaä-level messaging. It follows plucky orphans Sheeta and Pazu as they search for the purity promised with Laputa. But as always, others follow and threaten to taint the beauty in such untapped potential. Relish the OG Japanese voices (Aug. 25) or the always impeccable English voice cast (Aug. 22, 23, and 26) in this gorgeous, hopeful tale. – Cat McCarrey
