Austin fourpiece Tearjerk drifts between twangy rock & roll and earthy folk grit, making for immersive melodies that flicker between wistful introspection and gentle harmonic currents. In the collective’s latest project, and the angels whirr, vocalist-guitarist Vanessa Jollay’s crystalline notes thread through each layer of dreamy textures with precision and understated emotion. Standout gems “listenin’ now” and “thunderstorm” echo with plucky rawness and quiet contemplation, with just enough bite to tug on your heartstrings and keep you swaying along. Joining the ensemble is the zany, animated cartoon rock of Specific Thing, followed by the melodic indie-pop of Austin duo Other Vessels. – Miranda Garza
