Following the example of maestro Ravi Shankar, today’s Indian sitarists aren’t strict traditionalists. Like Austin’s own Indrajit Banerjee, himself a Shankar student, Mumbai’s Chirag Katti performs both acclaimed concerts of Indian classical music around the world and fusions of Indian music with other genres, in addition to adding sitar to film scores and playing with symphony orchestras. For his debut Texas date, he’ll be joined by world-renowned tabla master Pt. Gourisankar Karmakar, founder of the Austin School of Indian Percussion and Music and a globally beloved accompanist for over three decades, for a night of baithak-style beauty. – Michael Toland
