Who knew that Hilary Duff’s music career would have a resurgence in 2026 after more than a decadelong hiatus? Certainly not 12-year-old me blasting “Let the rain fall down…” off her 2003 album Metamorphosis. Lizzie McGuire and A Cinderella Story had a chokehold on early 2000s culture, but maybe the most layered and still-relevant work of Duff’s is this queer-coded tale of a free-spirited Army brat. When Kelly is forced to enroll in her stepfather’s military school, she butts heads with Christy Carlson Romano’s Cadet Captain Jennifer Stone and hijinks ensue. It’s extremely rare to see this one on the big screen, so take advantage of some nice in-person collective nostalgia. – Lina Fisher
