Listen: Con culture’s gone crazy in the last decade or so. Now mostly a preview place for the next sci-fi/fantasy show/movie/activation the major studios will torture us all with, the fan-made spirit has been lost in the Sarlacc pit of crap-italism. That’s why supporting smaller community cons like this Austin Public Library production is the way to go for the discerning nerd. Here at CABAM (Comics, Anime, Books, Art, Movies), entry’s free and the activities don’t require a Disney+ subscription. There’ll be cosplay swaps and showcases, local comic & book seller stations, a quick-draw photo booth, anime dubbing experimentation, trivia games, and even a Lego build showcase from ATXLUG. Get back to the fun (and free!) roots of fandom with culture junkies of all ages. – James Scott
