Memphis soul architect Booker T. Jones returns to Antone’s this Saturday, bringing the Hammond B3 grooves that helped define Stax Records. As leader of Booker T. & the M.G.’s – the house band behind Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, and Albert King – Jones co-wrote and played on some of the deepest cuts in Southern soul. His own instrumentals, from the immortal “Green Onions” to “Time Is Tight,” remain blueprints for groove-driven R&B. Live, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer turns those classics into a lean organ-combo revue: Memphis rhythm, blues grit, and the unmistakable sound of Stax history still breathing onstage. – Tim Stegall
