South African pianist Bokani Dyer last visited ATX back in August, so it says something about his artistry that he’s returning less than a year later. Born in Botswana, Dyer went on to rack up accolades in his home continent, including Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year and the SAMA award for best jazz album in 2019, the same year he debuted at London’s famous Ronnie Scott’s. 2023’s Radio Sechaba – still his most recent LP – is exciting, delightful, and moving all at once, and his trio sound clearly made an impression on Austinites drowning in music every night.
