Since 2022, L.A.’s American Cinematique has been hosting Bleak Week, a celebration of the most miserable, dour, and insightful cinema from around the globe. This year, Bleak Week goes global, and the Paramount and Hyperreal Film Club are teaming up to host Austin’s iteration of this monument to mournfulness. Kicking off with The Master at the Paramount and closing with Taste of Cherry at Hyperreal, happiness is definitely not guaranteed. – Richard Whittaker
