Exploding outta the mid-2000s garage-punk revival, Nashville’s Be Your Own Pet centered around singer Jemina Pearl, who behaved as if she grew up on Riot Grrrl, Saturday morning cartoons, caffeine, and the Pixies. 2006’s self-titled debut and 2008’s Get Awkward made them one of the most feral, entertaining bands of the post-Strokes era. Though they released new LP Mommy in 2023, BYOP is touring this year for the first LP’s 20th anniversary. Instrument-swapping locals Grocery Bag, fronted by singer/guitarist Bella Martinez, are perfect openers. Think fuzz pedals, youthful chaos, and songs designed to make drinks fly outta people’s hands. – Tim Stegall
