You’d be forgiven for assuming it’s OK to skip a three-hour historical drama in your foray through Stanley Kubrick’s filmography, but you’d be missing out. [Editor’s note: I do not share Lina’s forgiving heart on this matter.] Despite its arduous runtime, the life story of a seemingly amoral 18th century Irish trickster – replete with hilarious antics and truly devastating tragedy – makes for a riveting cinematic experience. Barry is a difficult character to pin down but a joy to watch, as he traverses the Irish social ladder and contends with the fruits of his roguery. – Lina Fisher
