The American biologist Eugene Stoermer is credited with coining the term “anthropocene” to describe the impact humans have on the Earth, and that is the subject of this new work from Austin dance troupe Performa/Dance, which, in their own words, examines “humanity’s tendency to put itself dead center at the expense of other life forms.” If that sounds a little heady, know that Performa/Dance – celebrating its 10th anniversary this year – has a long history of not just dance excellence and innovation but also a sense of humor about itself, as witnessed in the piece’s subtitles: AKA: Oh the Humanity!
