The 4K restoration of the original theatrical cut of Amadeus has earned raves for its clarity of detail – the better to see those Oscar-winning costumes, one of eight category wins the film bagged in 1985. But even if AFS Cinema was screening a dusty old VHS dub of Miloš Forman’s film, you’d still be in for a grand old time. Adapted by Peter Shaffer from his Tony-winning play, Amadeus invents a murderous rivalry between two composers, giggling wunderkind Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce) and the former court favorite Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham), sick with envy over the heathen Wolfie’s God-gifted talent. This movie is a feast. Savor it on the big screen. – Kimberley Jones
