An Aineki Traverso painting blends the warm color palette of a Renaissance painting with the mishmashed, slightly ominous textures of a contemporary abstract collage. She toys frequently with lacuna – lapses in memory, missed connections, unfinished thoughts – and in her 2026 work to flirt from the periphery, that translates to faces on headless bodies, eyes without frames, and blurs of stormy colors in the midst of her intricately rendered visages. The Atlanta-based artist spent the last month in Austin preparing new works as McLennon Pen Co.’s summer artist in residence; fall into her blank spaces now through mid-October. – Carys Anderson
