Austinite Jeff Nichols has made some pretty high-concept movies over the years, but in a recent Variety interview, he boiled it down to “I guess I’m always making relationship dramas.” You can pull that thread all the way back to his dynamite first feature, a tale of two sets of warring brothers set in Nichols’ native Arkansas and starring Michael Shannon in one of his most striking performances. Winner of the Austin Film Festival’s Narrative Feature Jury Award in 2007, this AFF-hosted retrospective screening will feature a post-film Q&A with Nichols. – Kimberley Jones
