Hotel Vegas responds to the much larger and better-known music festival happening this weekend by scraping Austin’s noisy underbelly for this top-heavy explosion of local talent. Billy King and the Bad Bad Bad’s lunar surf‑punk fury segues into Oogwei’s heavy psych trip and Banged Out’s visceral hardcore edge. Riverboat Gamblers guitarist Ian MacDougall’s Broken Gold continues to redefine Austin post-punk, while the Oxys’ fantastic new Casting Pearls Before Swine LP sees them adding some prime garage-punk organ to their raucous sleaze-rock salvos.
