A Streetcar Named Desire

When I was 8 years old, I had a friend named Stella. It drove me crazy, because every time I mentioned her, my dad would leap from his chair and yell “STELLLAAA.” I didn’t get it. Many years later, I learned it was my father’s crude imitation of Marlon Brando in 1951’s A Streetcar Named Desire. The film adapts the iconic Tennessee Williams play, taking you to a humid postwar New Orleans. It’s dark and stormy nights, Spanish moss, love, and loss. Yell out the name in the theatre at your own risk. – Sarah Andrews
