Rapper, party starter, former Music Commissioner, and overall steadfast Austin mover and shaker Jonathan “Chaka” Mahone’s Diversity Awareness and Wellness in Action has spent the last seven years “giving to the givers” – that is, connecting BIPOC artists with the resources necessary to keep Austin a creative wellspring – and on Saturday, it’s time to celebrate the nonprofit’s work. Slow jammers Smooth Nature, ethereal genre-bender DAMOYEE, CHICANO BLUES man EddieAngel, and dreamy singer-songwriter Nicotine play Oltorf’s Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co. from 5-11pm, hosted by Chaka’s dance-inducing trio Body Rock ATX. Ticket proceeds and a giving campaign ensure the DAWA Fund distributes financial support for years to come. – Carys Anderson
