Launched by local filmmakers Kayla Abuda Galang and Samantha Skinner, FemBeat captures the work of local feminists and self-identifying women in heartfelt, high-quality shorts. The cinematic duo teamed up to combat exclusion of women from the film world, and have since produced poignant docs on Austin figures like 80-year-old Chicana activist Martha P. Cotera and social justice org Counter Balance. Galang and Skinner curate cheerful community events to accompany FemBeat film premieres. Episodes are also available online.
