Best of Austin®

Best "Garage" Record Label

Revenant Records

Founded by late blues guitarist John Fahey and run by Dell executive Dean Blackwood, the tiny record company headquartered in Blackwood's garage won three Grammy awards this past year. Their seven-CD retrospective of the first star of Mississippi Delta blues, Screamin' and Hollerin' the Blues: The Worlds of Charley Patton, took the categories of Best Historical Album, Best Album Notes, and Best Boxed Set or Special Limited Edition Package. The world-renowned, Austin-grown company's 15-album roster includes reissued nuggets by greats like rockabilly pioneer Charlie Feathers, country blues man Dock Boggs, and jazz pianist Cecil Taylor. GQ magazine called it "the best record label in America" in 2002.
