Sound Exchange is bigger, Alien is more specialized, and Waterloo has an actual stage for its in-stores, but no other local new and used record store does more with its "head" room. Specializing in music for Austin's notoriously cross-armed music intelligentsia - categories include "psychedelic," "gothic," "jazz improv," "garage punk," "experimental," "composers," and "techno" - Thirty Three Degrees also manages to be the perfect (Hyde Park) neighborhood music store, having relocated from San Jacinto in '97. Hosting lots of free, eclectic, and underground cool in-stores (great acoustics!), and sporting the best poster window in town, shop where the hipsters go to be ahead of the curve.
