While hardly Austin's biggest or flashiest musical instrument and supplies store, South Austin Music is still Austin's best by being its friendliest. The secret: some of Austin's best musicians work there (like guitarist Danny Thorpe behind the counter and Bad Liver Danny Barnes giving lessons between tours), which means some of the best also shop there. Friendly and conducive to hanging out, South Austin Music is as much a social center as it is a store. Adjacent to the South Austin Custom Shop, this strip includes the Saxon Pub, making this a South Austin musical mini-mall.
